24 hours, 352 miles, one incredible effort for the Big Build

Updated: Sep 4, 2025

On 18 July, school dad and governor Michael Birnie took on an extraordinary personal challenge: a 24-hour cycling marathon in support of the Big Build.

Starting from the school gates at 9am, Michael rode a relentless 11-kilometre circuit through Hatherop, Fairford, Quenington and Coln St Aldwyns — repeating the loop again and again until the clock ran down. By the end of his ride, he had covered a staggering 352 miles in total.

When he finally returned to the school the following morning, Michael was met with a hero’s welcome from pupils, parents and staff. His determination and stamina have so far raised well over £5,000 for the Big Build — a fantastic contribution that will make a real difference to the project.

A huge thank you to Michael for his commitment, grit and generosity.
