Coln Valley Trail Runs draw bumper turnout
The Coln Valley Trail Runs returned on Sunday 7 September, bringing runners of all ages to the beautiful Coln River valley. From hay bale hurdles and the ‘dip of doom’ on the 2k fun run to the rolling pastures and iconic Arlington Row on the 5k and 10k routes, there was something for everyone. With jars of honey for finishers, BBQ and cakes at the finish, and brilliant support all round, it was a fantastic day. While the final total is still being counted, it’s already looking set to beat last year’s fundraising—thank you to all who took part!

Solo 24-hour cycle raises £5k+
A huge thank you to school dad and governor Michael Birnie, who on 18 July completed an immense personal challenge: a 24-hour bike ride in aid of the Big Build. Setting off from the school gates at 9am, Michael rode a continuous 11-km local loop through Hatherop, Fairford, Quenington and Coln St Aldwyns—over and over again—covering an astonishing 352 miles in total. He received a hero’s welcome on his return and has raised well over £5,000 for the project. Well done, Michael!

Major Big Build milestone: Phases 1 & 2 completed!
The first two stages of the Big Build are now finished — on time and on budget! With a larger Year 4 classroom and a brand-new school lobby, the improvements are already transforming life at Hatherop Primary. Thanks to incredible community support, fundraising has now passed £300,000.
And we’re not stopping there — Phase 3, our most ambitious challenge yet, is planned for Summer 2026.

£50,000 donation keeps Phase 1&2 plans on track
Big Build supporters have been bowled over by the extraordinary generosity of the John Armitage Charitable Trust, which has donated an astonishing £50,000 to the campaign. The Trust is a charitable foundation committed to "helping people help themselves". Its support for the community-led Big Build will certainly do just that, putting us within touching distance of reaching the target for Phases 1 & 2.
